The Elder Gods
The Elder Gods, also called the Old Gods, the Primordial Gods, the Three Gods, and various other titles, are a trinity of gods recognized by a number of religions, especially Mondism. The three Elder gods are:
- Alzerien, God of Time
- Nyrakiel, God of Magic
- Mariori, Goddess of Life
Nature and Aspects
The exact nature of the Elder Gods is often disagreed on by scholars and theologians, even within the same religion and sect. In Mondism, they are typically seen as divine beings worthy of worship, but are more removed from the lives of mortals than the Gods of the World. Each of the three gods plays an important role in the Mondish creation story, and the three of them are said to have awakened the other gods. Each of the three represent a metaphysical aspect of reality.
Alzerien
Called the God of Time, Alzerien is said by the Mondish Church to have been the first god to awaken. His act of waking and observing reality is itself what created the concept of time.
Nyrakiel
Because Alzerien created time, Nyrakiel awoke a moment later. He observed Alzerien in relation to himself and from that observation sprang forth the universe of space and magic.
Mariori
A moment after Nyrakiel awoke, Mariori awoke and observed the two other gods in relation to herself. This brought the concept of spirit and life into the universe.
